30. Asa Candler 1851-1929

“The man who bought it wanted more. I started people in the neighbourhood to catching minks, and the skins we sold brought quite a sum.”

Asa Candler was an American businessman and medicine manufacturer who found fortune and fame selling Coca-Cola. Candler bought the recipe for Coca-Cola from its inventor, John Pemberton, and several other shareholders. Candler paid only $550 for the recipe. The success of Coca-Cola was due to Candler’s aggressive and clever advertising, which has become a hallmark of the company to this day. Coke is a dominate brand almost everywhere fizzy drinks are consumed. It has established itself as classic Americana, and the go-to beverage for restaurant patrons. It even cleans battery acid or can take the rust off your bumper!
