“Objects are what matter. Only they carry the evidence that throughout the centuries something really happened among human beings.”

Levi Strauss was an American immigrant who came from a German-Jewish background. He moved to San Francisco where he would start his first company, Levi Strauss & Co., where the company’s now famous blue jeans were born. Originally only worn by workers and farmers, by the 1950’s and 60’s jeans were becoming popular among subcultures like greasers, mods, rockers, and hippies. By the 1970’s new relaxed fashion trends made blue jeans vastly popular and Levi’s were the most popular. To this day Levis Strauss remains one of the most successful clothing lines in production and their blue jeans are one of the all-time most purchased clothing item.
