Pierre Omidyar is a French born Iranian-America entrepreneur who founded and chaired the online auction site eBay. eBay helped transform the internet into a market place. Omidyar became a billionaire at age 31 in 1998 when eBay went public. Recently, Omidyar has taken interest in journalism, now serving as the head of investigative reporting and public affairs news service Honolulu Civil Beat. In 2013, it was announced Omidyar would be creating and financing First Look Media, an endeavor with renowned journalist Glenn Greenwald. He is also an active philanthropist. The Omidyar Network is a philanthropist group that provides funding to non-profits, for-profits, and public policy issues.
