81. Shelby, Carroll

“The reason I moved to California the first time was to build the Cobra. I thought it was stupid to have a 1918 taxicab engine in what Europeans like to call a performance car when a little American V-8 could do the job better.”

Carroll Shelby was an American automotive designer, race car driver, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and various Mustang-based performance cars which he built for the Ford Motor Company known as Shelby Mustangs. In 1962 he founded Shelby American Inc., which to this day sells modified Fords and parts for performance vehicles. The Shelby name is synonymous with performance, and some of the coolest Mustangs to ever hit the streets bore the Shelby name.
