85. Chevrolet, Louis (1878-1941)

Louis Chevrolet was a Swiss born, American race car driver and automaker of French descent. Along with William Durant, he founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in 1911. In 1916, Chevrolet founded the Frontenac Motor Corporation, which manufactured racing parts for Ford’s Model T. Chevrolet and Durant so public outcry for laws to regulate the safety of motor vehicles and a sign of what the market wanted. So Chevy and General Motors were marketed as safer and more reliable. Chevrolet helped transform American automotive manufacturing and to establish Detroit as Motor City. He was an accomplished and celebrated racer, who’s statue and memorial can be found at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum in Speedway, Indiana.
