100 Entrepreneurs Who Changed The World
89. Tom Monaghan (1937- )
“It isn’t enough to know what you want: You have to make sure that the people who can get it for you know you want it.”
Tom Monaghan is an American businessman who founded Domino’s Pizza in 1960 and soon revolutionized pizza delivery. Using an insulated box and carriers allowed more pizzas to be taken out for delivery at once. Domino’s speedy service spread. In the 90’s the company began its infamous “30 minutes or less or it’s free,” campaign. As for Tom, he bought the Detroit Tigers in 1983, only to sell them 9 years later (we don’t blame him, it is the Tigers, after all). In 1998 he sold Domino’s and retired to spend time with his wife, whom he met while delivering a pizza, and their family. But thanks to him, your pizza is still coming hot and fresh.
