15 Financial Tips before Becoming an Expat
11. Shop where the Locals Do
If one has time before becoming an expat, research local blogs and other publications which may provide insights on where the residents of the targeted city and country shop. Whether it is for groceries, clothes, or even gasoline if one plans to drive, taking the time to find out where normal people do their shopping will help one save money once moving abroad. If it is not clear where to go shopping for the essentials, try reaching out to local contacts and ask via email, Skype, or other means. Most countries outside of the United States have smaller refrigerators and as a result, the local grocery store is more of an every few days type of visit than the couple of times a month as commonly seen in America.
