7. Career Advancement

Wal-Mart gets a lot of hate over its entry-level workers and their wages. However, the company has shown that it will promote from within, and with hard work and persistence there is no limit to the heights one could rise to within the company. Just look at B. Kevin Turner, who began working for Wal-Mart as a cashier in 1985 while attending college. Turner worked through the ranks, soon becoming a customer service manager, housewares department manager, and then head office cashier. After completing his Bachelor’s degree, Turner joined the company’s internal audit department. In 1995, at the age of 29, Turner became Wal-Mart’s youngest corporate officer. In 2000, he became chief executive officer of Sam’s Club, which has 46 million members and brings in over $37 billion in annual sales.
