10. Tour guides
There are certain jobs which licensing protects consumers by ensuring that the person trusted to do a job or service has been vetted and is capable. It adds a since of security to high risk jobs like tour guides… Or, maybe Washington DC is just nuts. In our nation’s capital you must get a license to give tours. Like any profession in Washington, the tour guides went out and got the government to make them a protected market. Don’t you dare start pointing out historic buildings to your family, and no, clearly you are not qualified to show me the Washington Monument. Again, this is just another instance of regulation seeking to limit competition…. Of tour guides. Really…. Tour guides.
