10 Government Regulations Too Stupid to Believe
7. Mobile food carts
Mobile food carts are awesome. They allow food enthusiasts a great way to start their business without the expensive overhead required of an actual restaurant. They travel to where the crowds are, and wherever they go they are in popular demand. That’s why some restaurant owners are upset, and they’ve asked the law to intervene. Now in many places food trucks and carts are not allowed within a certain distance of urban dining areas—basically shutting them out of areas with the most foot traffic. One Michigan boy learned this the hard way when, even after going through all the hops to get his permits, had his hotdog cart shutdown because he was operating too close to established businesses. But again, a valuable life lesson for that boy: protectionism sure does suck.
