Liberals tend to love the Internet. It has been described as “the greatest example of anarchy history has ever known.” Not that your average liberal understands or actively advocates anarchy, they do think the t-shirts are cool. The truth in Friedman’s statement, uttered in 1999, can be illuminated by the fact that the federal government, through the FCC, is doing all it can to “regulate” the Internet. Why wouldn’t it? Threats to the bureaucracy must be found and eradicated. Once it’s effectively regulated, dangerous thoughts from people like Milton Friedman will no longer be found there.
