As if the US national debt of $16 trillion isn’t enough to worry about, that number is only small percentage of what the US owes in unfunded financial liabilities. Including all federal expenditures, unfunded liabilities add up anywhere from $80-$100 trillion, depending on who’s doing the math. The majority of that astronomical unfunded obligation is Social Security and Medicare.
Despite these sobering realities, politicians continue spend like drunken sailors and Americans continue to vote for and support policies that grow government and increase spending. The nation is heading for a fiscal cliff and few people with the power to do anything about it seem to care.
