10 Products That Are a Rip-off
7. High Octane Gasoline
There is a misconception that high octane gasoline will help your car run better.Unless your vehicle comes from the manufacturer with the recommendation that you use high octane fuel it does not help your vehicle to do so. If your car does need high octane and you fail to use it your check engine light will ultimately come on. If your car does not need high octane and you use it anyway, any improvement while using high octane would usually mean there is a repair that needs to be completed such as having the computer system checked, the ignition timing system, or a high milage engine carbon build up could be the issue. High octane needs higher temperature and pressure to ignite so it can withstand a higher compression without reigniting. This helps to prevent pinging and knocking but it today’s vehicles most have sensors called knock sensors so using high octane gasoline is not needed.High octane will also cost you quite a bit more money and does not provide an increase in mileage, give quicker starting,or increased power.
