10 Reasons why the Transatlantic and Trans-Pacific Partnerships are Good for America
9. TPP Will Help to Keep China in Check
The Trans-Pacific Partnership will help the US to counter China’s expansion. China wants to force the Asia-Pacific Region under its economic and financial control, and there is no other power that can counterbalance the Chinese Dragon in the region except the American Eagle.
Most of the East Asian countries want to maintain a strong US presence in their region as a counterweight to Chinese influence. The TPP agreement would organize trade in the Pacific Rim according to US free-trade principles rather than China’s imperialist goals, and it is in the vital interest for both of them.
Both economically and geopolitically, the Trans-Pacific Partnership would perpetuate the United States’ stabilizing role in Asia. The proposed agreement is one of the few Obama administration’s bright ideas, although the White House is too slow and inept at negotiating and implementing it. All that’s left now is for both the president and the Congress to keep their promises and make it happen.
